Whitney Tracy (Mountainaire Gatherings)

Why do you love what you do?

Nothing compares to being the one to capture a couple's happiness as they commit their lives to one another. Whether they're standing in front of a large group of family and friends or eloping somewhere in the High Peaks, documenting their day is an honor that never grows old. From the first time we chat to the moment they recite their vows, the friendships I've formed with my clients go beyond the typical vendor experience.

What life experiences led to you to what you do? In short what's your story?

I was a food and landscape photographer who had her arm twisted into taking some headshots for another local photographer! I resisted initially as I was NOT someone who photographed people but she persisted and I gave in. That session turned into my second-shooting for her for a summer which then lead to the creation of my own business. Turns out, I didn't mind photographing people after all!

Fill in the blank. When I'm not at work I'm....

Exploring every nook and cranny of the Adirondacks!

Jamie McGiver (Due West Photography)

Why do you love what you do?

I like giving people the opportunity to see themselves from an outsider's perspective. We know and feel love within our own personal relationships, but to see that connection captured by someone else - that can bring new light and appreciation to the everyday, easy-to-miss moments and adoring glances.

What life experiences led to you to what you do? In short what's your story?

I used to work as a social worker in the public school system. I sat across the table from people of all ages and backgrounds. I learned about their stories and in many cases, tried to help them write new ones. Some days were dark. Others, hopeful. There were aspects of that career that I loved and still miss, but working with couples and their families on their wedding day - one of the happiest days of their lives, is a welcomed juxtaposition to my past life. I am so fortunate to be able to spend my workday in the presence of such unbridled joy and love.

Fill in the blank. When I'm not at work I'm....

Outdoors. On skis, dangling from a rope, wandering trails with my dog or checking my ego on a mountain bike.

Dawn Honksy (Dawn Honksy Photography)

Why do you love what you do?

I absolutely love being a wedding photographer. I love working with couples who are madly in love with each other and not afraid to show it. Couples that love to adventure off the beaten track, capturing their real, raw, unposed images of emotions, motion moments. I love to see my couples in love, capture their memories and give them images that will become heirlooms to last a lifetime.

What life experiences led to you to what you do? In short what's your story?

I started Photography on film. Always loving to capture images to tell stories- photojournalist style. I then worked for a wedding photographer to learn all of the hands on experiences the good, the bad, the ugly. Everything I needed to know as ya da on experience. Best decision ever! Fast forward Ten years later, I am traveling all over the country documenting love. Loving every minute of my job!

Fill in the blank. When I'm not at work I'm....

In the Adirondacks exploring with my family.

Kleigh O. (Kleigh O. Photos)

Why do you love what you do?

I love what I do becuase I love being the person who has a front row seat to my clients' biggest moments. Whether it's a dad walking his little girl down the aisle for a first time, a mother celebrating her smallest blessings or the look on a groom's face as he sees his bride for the first time -each moment is so magical and different. Everyone's day or session has its own special meaning, and I feel so honored to become a part of the family for the day to document these experiences and moments.

What life experiences led to you to what you do? In short what's your story?

As I sit here thinking of my response to this question I glance over at the framed photo of my Grama on her wedding day that sits on my desk. When I look at this photo I cherish it because that moment was captured in time for future generations to enjoy. Since flipping through her album, acquiring a couple of my Grama's wedding photos and picking up my Grandpa's 35mm camera, I instantly feel in love with art and craft of photography. I started out as a self-taught hobby photographer capturing candid moments amongst friends and family. Fast forward 10 years when friends gave me the gentle nudge and courage to make this fun hobby a business in 2011. I can't thank my very first wedding couple enough for having faith and planting the wedding photography bug in me to bring me to where I am today. I love the memories that I cherish of my family/friends and I want to be able to create the same feeling for my past, current and future clients.

Fill in the blank. When I'm not at work I'm....

Getting outside with my two labs, Bourbon & Remi, location scouting for future sessions, or baking/whipping up something tasty in the kitchen!
