valentine's day: 4 ways!

The blooming (pardon my pun) interest in the local flowers movement is so incredible. Thank you to everyone who is following along with our journey here in the Adirondacks. I’ve seen a few blog posts and newsletters lamenting the absence of local flowers this time of year. Please! Check with your local flower farmers before you cross flowers off your list. We have TONS of flowers right now, and we’re looking forward to sharing them with local customers this week.

Our flowers are grown indoors, underground, this time of year. —I know— it seems kind of crazy. But, growing tulips (and other flowers — we’re working on freesia, alliums, calla lilies, and paperwhites, too) below ground allows us to take advantage of the ambient heat from the earth and the structures above the space. We invest no additional money in heating the grow space. Low energy LED lights fuel our blooms. We have been harvesting tulips since early January, and next winter we hope to open tulip season in time for Christmas.

But if you're not in the market for our local cut flowers, we have some other ideas for you, too!

Option 1:

You can find our specialty tulips at the following local shops/towns starting February 13th, while supplies last.

Nori’s Village Market, Saranac Lake, NY

Adirondack Chocolates, Wilmington, NY

Adirondack Chocolates, Lake Placid, NY

Cedar Run, Keene, NY

Cold Mountain Coffee, Keene Valley, NY

Ward Lumber, Jay, NY

Option 2:

Send mom for a special program at our farm. The first on-farm Mother’s Day farm tours and design workshops are now open for registration! Share the promise of spring and the beauty of our flowers as a Valentine’s Day gift! Registration is now open, but space is limited! Interested in other course options? We’ll open registration for a new course each day this week, so stay tuned to Instagram and Facebook for announcements. All workshop/course listings will appear our online shop.

Option 3:

Share the gift of own-grown flowers with your sweetie! Our annual Dahlia tuber sale is still on. Dahlias are a beautiful addition to any garden. We ship our tubers (tubers are like roots or bulbs) in the spring as soon as we know they won’t be frozen or damaged by the temperatures. This is a great option for green-thumbed sweethearts who love gardening and will be more tickled by the thought of new plants than cut flowers.

Option 4:

Do you have a budding (these puns, I know!) flower farmer or farmer-florist in the family? Honor their journey and hard work with a gift of my consultation service. I offer hour-long tailored consultation calls to flower growers, flower farmers, farmer-florists, florists, and anyone hoping to become one of these things. Topics can range from business and marketing advice to learning which plants are most profitable and how to grow them to identifying a target market or audience. Each session is complimented by the sharing of extra information like documents, spreadsheets, and other pertinent resources post call. Learn more about the consultation service and my background at the link below.

I hope that sends you off with some good ideas for the holiday! Thank you for tuning in.

Best,
