A La Carte Vessel Line Up
We’re still committed to the horizontal ribbed vase ($3.75/vase) as our mainstay for A La Carte event orders for pick up. They are inexpensive and easy to design out of. If I could have only one kind of vase for this product line, I’d use that vase.
This spring, we are also adopting a vase that is larger and one that is smaller. We can absolutely design larger or smaller arrangements out of the standard size vase simply by cutting our stems longer or shorter, but the comittment to different vessel sizes helps us be a little more consistent with our design work and it will also provide some clarity for the customer. Frequent customers may wonder why an large arrangement comes in the same size vase as a standard arrangement, for example.
For this kind of vase I’m looking for a vessel with a wider bottom and a tighter opening. I want my stems to be able to splay both below the rim and above it, forming an hour glass shape. Vessels with tighter rims allow us to get right to work without using any tape or chicken wire. A few branches or pieces of foliage set in place first allow for everything else to nestle in nicely.
Do I love a fancy compote vase? Absolutely. Do I love them for efficient design work? No. They take more time and time is money. Do I like them for a la carte pick-up orders when I may never see those vessels again? No.
We found that the ‘Lottie’ vase ($7.50/vase) will serve us well as an inexpensive larger vase size. The ‘Etta’ vase ($2/vase) will serve as our smaller size.
