Hot Knife

Ever try to cut landscape fabric with scissors or a propane torch? Ugh. Here is a great solution to the problem. This tool makes cutting woven landscape fabric a breeze! You can use it to seal the ends of a roll of fabric, cut x-shapes for planting larger plants, or cut down a roll of fabric into tidy pieces for your aisles. It’s quick and clean and electric!! No propane.

Some safety considerations: this is an electric tool, be careful not to use it near water or on wet grass, etc. The tip of this tool gets red-hot! Be careful not to get burned and be careful not to set it down on flammable materials or dry grass. There is a risk of fire, especially if you are working in an area experiencing drought conditions. We typically use it on our lawn when the grass is healthy and green. Allow the tool to cool completely before you put it back in its case.

Have a look and see how this hot knife cuts through landscape fabric like a hot knife through butttttter. So satisfying. Some great features: it’s quick, it’s cleaner (fewer fumes than propane torch burning, because the fabric is being melted very minimally, just right along the knife), and it’s electric - so there’s no propane to run out of / no gas to be used. If we want to use this tool in the field or tunnel, we run an extension cord. Otherwise, we measure our row or bed with a measuring tape and cut the fabric near a power source. This tool is also great for cutting fabric into narrow strips that can be used as aisle runners. 💫
