Bulb Crate Floral Delivery

Hello! I’m here with our long time farmer-florist event “delivery” system. We use bulb crates for so many tasks on our farm. They are probably the hardest working / most used tools here. We use them to collect and move weeds daily, to force bulbs in the winter, to transport mulch and compost, to store harvested tulips — so many things. And we also use them to transport design work.

Here is the little shelving unit that we custom made to fit in our delivery van to help us deliver even more flowers and designs to weddings and event. This shelving unit has delivered hundreds of weddings. It holds 10 bulbs crates in an area that would otherwise hold only 5. It has been so handy. The unit itself is not anchored to the vehicle, although you certainly could do that. It was wide enough that it never tipped over for us, even on our winding mountain passes.

The second part of the video shows how we stack designs in bulb crate towers to fit 3 levels of centerpieces in the van if we need to. We remove the tallest stems and use a “clam shell” method to create stackable towers of designs. Zip ties hold the crates together and prevent them from sliding in transit. The towers are built inside the van as the arrangements are loaded. When we get to the venue, we snip the zip ties and carry the arrangements inside.

We use the crates stacked upside down on each other as small design stations where centerpieces can be touched up before placement.

My mantra: “It always fits.” —Which is ALMOST always true. If you have a large event and you think it will be a close fit in your delivery vehicle, you should have a back up second vehicle (or third, etc. depending on the size of your event) ready to help. I usually had 1 or more people working most of our events with me. They would meet me at our farm/studio to pack up and we’d be able to also use one of their cars if needed.

We also now use a Seminole Floral Delivery System. It is great. And we can set sections of that system into our shelving unit.
