Flower Farm Operating Manual
Hello! A member requested info about an operating manual, which came perfectly timed for us here. I’m getting ready to step away for a work trip for a couple weeks and there’s nothing like leaving your farm to make you feel an urgent need to writing everything down.
It’s quite a task. I’m assembling an operating manual that speaks to our individual jobs on the farm, general daily tasks and goals, specific facility/machine operations, and routine maintenance, and specific varietal care.
Many aspect of a manual like this are seasonal. Nonetheless- this project is a wormhole- you could describe the various tasks at your business in infinite detail. But, I don’t think that’s necessary. A document that is too dense or boring won’t be used well.
I’ve decided to make individual plant “care cards” for different varieties on our farm. I’d like to laminated these cards and make them available near the plants.
Here are three different formats of Operating Manuals. My own styled document is available as a template in Canva if you’d like to somewhere to start that isn’t “from scratch.”
