More Grow Room Trials
Hello, growers!
Here is a quick post with some updates on the grow room. We are almost done with the Dutch iris program. This week, we’ll bring the last 5 crates (final succession) into the grow room. I have LOVED having them. We Should have have about 4 more weeks of iris harvests to come.
Our hydro amaryllis tests for Ampersand have been beautiful.
The lily seedlings are growing on, and they will be moved to the greenhouse soon.
And now we’re getting seedlings going for the value-added food project and for some indoor growing tests.
I want to see if there are some relatively easy flowers/greens that we can produce in the winter along with the tulips, iris, daffs, that grow from seed.
Here are some of the factors that are leading to my choices for this work:
Plants must be small enough to grow indoors and not take up a huge footprint under the lights.
Plants that have short days to bloom: Linaria, Bachelor Buttons, Silver Tip Wheat, Zinnia.
Plants that can be more or less neglected: Forget me Nots, Cabbage, grasses.
Plants that have disease or pest pressure outside: Asters.
Plants that can’t survive outside as perennials: Craspedia.
We’ll see what happens.
