BOUTS: No Glue/Tape method
Interested in sustainable design techniques? Skip the floral tape/glue and use this simple binding method for boutonnieres and bouquets.
Choose a natural material that can be composted, like twine or raffia or organic cotton. (Avoid satin or polyester-based materials).
Begin by forming a loop with your twine and hold it against the back your flower bunch. Wrap your stems from the bottom, up as you bind both the stems and the twine tails together. When you reach the top with the “wrapping” end of your material, thread it through the loop. Pull down on the tail at the bottom of the boutonniere to tighten and adjust both tails until it feels snug.
Store your boutonnières on a pin frog in water and/or in an air tight bin overnight before an event the next day.
