Overwintering & Pruning Container Grown Eucalyptus
Hello- Our eucalyptus is starting to sprout and it’s a good time to share what new growth looks like after the hard prune that we do in December.
Here are some basic details for our process.
We start with seed and sow it in 72 cell trays.
We bump up those seedlings up to 4-inch pots, then 1 gallon pots, then 7 gallon pots.
We plant into a soilless medium and use a 3-4 month slow release fertilizer, applied twice a year. Once in February and once again in June.
We take care to keep our eucalyptus watered in their containers during the growing season.
We wait to cut stems until they are about a pencil width in diameter, smaller stems can be prone to wilting.
In December, we prune the plants back hard to about 4-5 inches tall.
In February, we loosen the soil, and apply some slow release fertilizer.
