Powdery Mildew Spot Treatment
We see the highest incidence of powdery mildew amongst our tunnel crops in the spring time when temps are cool, humidity is rising, and daylight hours are still short.
It’s overtaken an entire tunnel planted full of ranunculus here, before. It was a disaster. We failed to vent the tunnel well. We didn’t monitor temperatures. Everything had to be cleared out and solarized. I’ve grown to be extra wary of it.
We look daily for signs and spot treat powdery mildew at first sight.
In the summertime, we like to use diluted milk (regular milk from the grocery store) in the unheated tunnels. I’ll share more about it this season when we’re treating the roses. It’s great for that collection. But it’s stinky. I prefer the mint product in a space where we’re working for hours a day (as opposed to treating and leaving). It’s pleasant to be around.
