Sea Holly Comparison
Have you heard the phrase “everything grows better in a tunnel”?
I’ve found this to be true in almost every instance I can think of, but it can be hard to visualize just how significant the difference can be.
This video takes a look at sea holly in 3 different growing situatations for a comparison of height and growth habit. Our sea holly is ‘blue glitter’ and ‘white glitter’. It grows easily from seed (Swallowtail Garden Seeds). You can also get plugs from Gro N’ Sell or Farmer Bailey if you like. Sea holly requires vernalization for blooming, so be patient and add some plants to your line up now if you’d like to have them next year. They will be even better in their 3rd season.
We use sea holly (in our zone) for orders that call for blue accents from late June all the way through frost. And we are happy to dry extra stems.
Note: if you grow sea holly without weed barrier — you’ll find that they reproduce easily as long as you leave a few stems hear and there. New seedlings will pop up each season.
