Shipping Container Flower cooler

Here is some information about our flower cooler. Have a look inside and see how it works. I am convinced that - for the area - this is the lowest cost per cubic foot of climate-controlled cooler space that you can find. This is an insulated shipping container: 8ft wide by 40ft long by 9ft tall. We purchased it from A-Verdi. The current price for a unit like this (a non-functioning “reefer” unit) is about $9k delivered to us here - that was from a recent inquiry I sent them this winter to check into current pricing for you.

For comparison: a walk-in cooler kit from Store It Cold (the Cool Bot company) starts at $4925 and is much smaller.

Obviously- you’re not setting one of these shipping containers up in your home or studio. You may not even be allowed to have one due to zoning for your property. It may be that a homemade cooler room with a cool bot or a smaller pre-built cooler kit are the only options that will work for you.

We can use our cooler for:

bulb storage, tuber storage, perennial over wintering, cut flower inventory, pre-sprouting
