Stems per Bunch
When I started growing flowers and working occasionally with florists and or needed to order in some flowers from someone else, I had not idea what one “bunch” of flowers meant.
When I saw availability lists, they would sometimes also say “grower’s bunch” was the size. What makes that different than a regular bunch?
This part of our industry is a bit confusing.
Generally speaking, one bunch of flowers for a florist is typically 10 stems. Grower’s bunches can be fewer or more, depending on the products and may also be related to the size/length of a product and how it is harvested (only so many stems can fit in a person’s hand).
Here are some common bunch quantities to help you mainstream your offerings to florists or retail bulk flower buyers. For more info. I recommend doing a little recon at your local wholesale flower distributor. Go and have a look at what they are offing and see how many stems are in a bunch for the products you’re interested in.
For flowers that a wholesaler doesn’t carry, I generally look at a flower/green that is of similar size and video weight. I set my prices and stem count per bunch based on that info. Drop a comment below if you have some more resources to share regarding stem/count and/or pricing for small farm specialty cut flowers.
