Cordless Transfer Pump

Happy to introduce this tool- it’s new to our line up here and I love it! Check out the video below for some info and a demo for a Mellif cordless transfer pump. It pumps water at a rate of 7.2 gallons per minute! Here are the applications we’re finding for it.

Cordless Transfer Pump Applications:

  • draining flooded areas (greenhouses after weird weather spells, basement)

  • watering crops when the hoses and spigots are frozen

  • fertilizing crops with water-soluble fertilizer mixed into buckets

  • watering and saving vulnerable seedlings when the power is out and we have no water (well pump system)

  • draining hydroponic systems (emptying trays quickly without having to carry them out and dump them)

  • watering hard-to-reach crops that we can’t run a hose or sprinkler to

  • watering rooting crops in storage areas

  • watering off-site - landscaping projects, storefront window boxes, etc.

  • watering with collected rainwater from barrels, troughs, or ponds/streams

    And bonus:

  • filling toilets when the power is out and our well pump is not able to function

Warning:

Note: If you are using this tool for the purpose of moving clean water (for watering or hydroponic systems) and also for moving dirty water (draining hydro systems or flooded areas), I recommend keeping 2 different sets of hoses — 1 set for “clean water application” and 1 set for “dirty water applications”. If you are using it for fertilizer application, you may want a third set. Label these hose sets and be religious about using them only for the proper jobs.

For example, if I’m emptying a hydroponic system that may have fusarium in it, I don’t want to turn around and water my lisianthus (or other crops, really) with the same hoses, EVEN if I flush them out ahead of time. You’re just playing with fire if you try that.

Extra Parts

This tool comes with a “skimmer” attachment that you can put on the end of a hose to collect smaller amounts of water. You will need to add a Dewalt 20v battery (and its charger) to run this tool.

Other items you may want:

Expandable garden hose (seen in video with watering wand attachment)

Short blue hose (used to drain trough in video)

Wonder Waterer (watering wand in video)

Locking pliers (common items at local hardware stores). Used to fix small leak.

Plumbers tape (common item at local hardware stores). Used to fix small leak.

100 gallon stock tank (we purchased ours in person at a Tractor Supply store)
