Filming with Canvas
We’ve had several requests for more information about photography/videography and capturing content for social media posts and how-to videos. Here is one of our favorite tools. The Canvas desk lamp is a versatile tool for filming hands-free with a mobile phone in all kinds of directions. It’s my favorite tool for filming.
I’ve tried several of these kinds of phone holders for filming over the last few years and this is far and away my favorite. It’s made for indoor work, but I also carry it outside and set it on an overturned 5-gallon bucket or table or— even on the ground to film when I don’t want to set up a tripod or try to balance my phone on something.
I find the Canvas tool much more effective than the gooseneck holders that clamp onto surfaces and promise flexible mounts on long tube-like arms. The problem with those designs is that you don’t always have something to clamp on to, and I find that they are much more susceptible to jiggling/vibrations. I do not recommend them.
Whenever you see me film something from a bird’s eye view or from inside the studio or our home, I’m using a Canvas desk lamp tool (except of course for this video in which the tool itself is pictured!).
Some of our favorite uses for the Canvas Desk lamp:
to show or teach a skill like wreath making, floral design, etc.
to capture time-lapse photography/videography of flowers blooming/opening
to capture flat lay photos/videos
to film any sort of video that may or may not require additional lighting
to take photos/film hands-free or from a distance (take photos on your own of yourself holding flowers by using the remote trigger)
