Electric hole Burning
Hello and ‘Bon Weekend’, as we like to say here. Today I have a great tool to share with you. This is an electric calf de-horner. Yikes, I know!
But this tool is super for flower farming. Let me show you how it is great for folks who are growing with weed barrier/landscape fabric.
Here is a link to the tool and we’ll make sure that it gets added to the Tool Gallery. We are so happy with this tool. Bringing it to our operation immediately relieved us of the propanes torches, which were always kind of a pain for me to use. The torches can freeze up, leak gas under the fabric/template, run out of fuel. We’ve never looked back from this one, that is for sure!
While the calf dehorner requires an extension cord, it really isn’t difficult for us to use/manipulate. The tool gets very hot, so you will want to have something non-flammable to rest it on if you set it down. We use a large stone or brick or the gravel on the driveway. The element heats up very quickly in just a few minutes and it cools down when you unplug the tool. Be careful- it can takes longer to cool down.
Use common sense: Be sure you don’t allow your electrical cords to run under your fabric or templates. Do not use electrical tools in wet/rainy weather.
Here is a link to my public blog post about the templates/jigs for the hole spacing. It will teach you how to make those sheet metal templates yourself.

Hope this tool tip is helpful!
