Floral Delivery Kits

Here’s a tip for florists and farmer-florists who are delivering and installing event floral designs. These delivery kits became invaluable to me last summer when I needed to deliver and install some weddings on my own due to a team member’s back injury. After attempting to find alternative assistants and failing, I looked at the things we had around and built a portable delivery kit that I could squeeze into the van with me and use to move lots of items from the van to the venues myself. These 2 kits saved me MANY trips up between ballrooms and parking garages, allowing me more time to set up inside under less pressure. At the time, they really felt like a life saver. I didn’t deliver another event without them. They are that useful! The video will give you a sense for how it works. More info and shopping links below the clip.

This kit starts with a collapsible Ozark Trails wagon. This is the kind of wagon you might purchase for taking to the beach or going camping. I recommend the style with larger “off road” or “oversized’ wheels if you may need to use your wagon on grass or sand from time to time. The larger wheeled wagons take less effort to move over soft and uneven surfaces. (We have one of each.)

When I arrive at a venue I set up the wagon (this is really fast, it unfolds like a camping chair) and I put my tools and smaller items inside the wagon itself. I tie one of our seed starting shelves (18in x 48in) on top. You can secure them with a zip tie or twine (twine is my preference for helping us achieve single-use plastic-free events). I put the shelf on upside down if I want the lip of the shelf to prevent my goods from slipping off, or I tie on some base sections of our Seminole Floral Delivery System to keep vases from slipping around.

I have two of these wagon kits and I’m able to load them and pull them both at the same time, provided the hallways are wide enough to accommodate me. I suppose they could also be linked together like a train if you don’t need to navigate tight corners.

The best thing about this kit is that it takes up so little space in your delivery vehicle. I also use them AGAIN and AGAIN for moving all the bulky elements that I need for large arbor installations out to the outdoor ceremony sites. Most of those spaces are lakeside in our area and without the wagons we were making so many trips and carrying more weight than we needed to.

Delivering and installing wedding and event work can be stressful. I WISH I’d had this set up years ago. I hope this tip is helpful to you, too. As always, let me know if you have any questions and please feel welcome to share comments.
