Introduction to the Hover Drone

Today, we're diving into the world of drones, specifically focusing on the Hover drone. Here at Little Farm House, we use two types of drones: a larger DJI drone and a more compact Hover drone. Both have their unique features and uses, but today we're spotlighting the smaller, more portable option.

The DJI Drone

Let’s start with the larger DJI drone. It's a traditional, larger drone that operates through a handheld set linked to a cell phone. It’s a bit more complicated due to its size and setup, but it delivers excellent footage for wide, aerial shots.

The Hover Drone

Now, let's talk about the hover drone. Priced around $350, this drone can be purchased with a double battery pack – one battery in the drone and the other in the charger. Here’s what the charger looks like: it's compact and easy to plug in.

Design and Operation

The hover drone folds up neatly, making it highly portable. You can open it and launch it from your hand. It has various operational modes: you can use button commands directly on the drone, or you can control it via your phone.

Features

This drone offers some automatic movements like zooming in and out, and it can even follow you around – a bit creepy but quite useful for hands-free operation. You can use your phone’s audio or connect AirPods or a microphone for clear audio alongside your video recording.

Limitations

Despite its many features, the hover drone has limitations. It cannot capture super high-altitude, bird's-eye view shots. Its battery life is another downside, lasting only about 15 minutes. Although this can be inconvenient, its portability might make it worth it, as it easily fits into a handbag and can be used on the go.

Durability Test

One notable aspect of the hover drone is its durability. There’s a protective cage around the propellers. When I first handed it to my son to test it out, he ran around with it. The drone accidentally ricocheted off a van and the top of our house, then crash-landed back under the van just minutes after we started using it. Surprisingly, it remained unscathed. So, if you're worried about crashing it, this drone can take quite a beating.

In Action

Now, let’s see this drone in action. Launching it is simple: just press a button and it takes off from your hand. I put it in follow mode and walked into the greenhouse to demonstrate. Despite small spaces, it followed me closely, something the larger DJI drone couldn't handle due to its size and motion sensors.

Conclusion

If you’re in the market for a durable, portable drone with great camera capabilities and you don’t mind the shorter battery life, the hover drone is an excellent choice. Its ease of use and innovative features make it perfect for capturing beautiful footage in various settings.
