iPhone Macro Photos

Welcome back, everyone! I hope you're doing well. Today, I have an exciting photography tip for you, especially if you've been feeling cooped up with all this dreary weather. Did you know your iPhone has a nifty feature that lets you capture stunning macro photos? We're talking about those super zoomed-in, detailed images that are not only eye-catching but also a joy to explore.

Let's take a little journey into the world of macro photography!

Follow Me to the Grow Room

Since it's yet another gray, rainy day here (five days in a row, actually), we're taking our exploration indoors to the grow room in the basement. Although the lighting here isn't ideal, I managed to get some decent light to demonstrate how easily you can take macro photos with your iPhone.

How to Capture Macro Photos with an iphone

First, open your camera app and select the regular photo setting—make sure not to choose portrait or video modes. For this little adventure, we're using the one-times lens, which gives us access to the iPhone's automatic macro feature. As you move closer to your subject, keep an eye out for the tiny tulip icon that appears, allowing you to get up close and personal with the details of your image.

For example, I experimented with bunny tail grasses I'm growing in crates. Despite my neglect, they seem to be OK! They have great texture, so I knew they’d be good subjects for some macro shots. Here's a fun idea for you: use these macro shots to create engaging social media posts. You can challenge your followers to identify the subject of your close-up photos, reminiscent of those mystery pages in Highlights magazine from childhood. It's a delightful way to add a touch of creativity to your social media feed.

To enhance the details in your photos even more, try adjusting the contrast in your camera’s built in photo editor.

Final Thoughts

I hope you find this little tip useful. Macro photography is a fun and accessible way to appreciate the intricacies of everyday objects. With improvements to phone cameras, we don’t even need to purchase fancy equipment or use DSLR cameras.

If you feel like you want to go a step further without breaking the bank, check out lens that you can attach right to your phone to extend the built in camera’s reach. There are lots of options. I’m a fan of a company called Moment that makes special lens for phones.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend, hopefully with less rain than here. Until next time, happy photographing!
