Succession Planting with weed Barrier

Hi! Here’s a simple way to save time and lessen the burden of weeding through landscape fabric if you are succession planting annuals this season.

We’re using this method for our sunflower plantings. We’ll direct sow sunflowers every week until the end of July.

This method involves preparing a whole bed and then uncovering small parts of it at a time in order to plant.

Here are the layers described in the video:

  1. prepare the soil

  2. add landscape fabric with holes

  3. add drip line

  4. add landscape fabric with no holes

The topmost layer (#4) is peeled away or rolled up exposing manageable areas of bed. It can be replaced for a short period during germination if bird or rodent pressure is too high.

This way, the remaining bed will not grow thick with weeds before you are ready to plant it, and all of your irrigation is ready to go from the start.
