2 EASY Flower Crown Methods

There are quite a few different methods for making flower crowns. These are my favorite methods. The botanical elements are simply attached with floral glue to a headband from the drug store or a pipe cleaner chain as in the “floral dog collar” tutorial.

I use only elements that I know will hold up well. This is really the key to feeling good about what I’m sending out the door. I test these elements myself. I don’t leave this kind of work up to chance or poll the web/universe for it’s thoughts.

I store all small personal flower designs in an airtight bin with a damp paper towel overnight in the cooler. They are misted or sprayed with a little water. I don’t use any floral preservatives or floral preservative sprays. They can have nasty scents and they’re a step away from what I want to be: natural and healthy and safe.

Unfortunately the glue and headband/pipe cleaners make these pieces non-compostable. Some of my clients will let their crowns dry and wear them later (or for dress up) as dried floral crowns. When we’re practicing here in the studio, we’ll tear off the flowers from a “spent” headband crown and glue new flowers in their places.

I love that these methods prevent crowns from getting super heavy (visual weight). Most of my clients want something that looks manicured and dainty. These pieces are also super easy to wear.

For clients who want something that IS a little heavier in weight or that wraps around the whole head and looks like a bohemian “wired” flower crown, I use the method from the Dog Collar tutorial and I make a design to fit the wearer’s head. You can adjust the size of the pipe cleaner chain to make a crown that is more narrow or wider.

That’s it! Fast, simple, beautiful. Let me know if you have any questions.

Interested in a “glass head” for building wearables. Here is an online shop where you can find them. Or google “glass head for display.”
